LAVINIA FONTANA

Lavinia Fontana pronto destacó en el taller de su padre, famoso pintor, por sus habilidades artísticas. Fue una retratista muy de moda en su época y también pintó temas mitológicos, los cuales estaban prohibidos para las mujeres por contener desnudos. Así, fue la primera mujer en Europa en representar estos desnudos tanto femeninos como masculinos. Al igual que muchas otras artistas, su obra fue atribuida durante muchos años a artistas masculinos, en este caso a Guido Reni.

Lavinia Fontana soon excelled in the workshop of her father, a famous painter, because of her skills. She was a very fashionable portraitist in her time and also painted mythological subjects, which were prohibited for women because they contained nudity.
