SOFONISBA ANGUISSOLA

Perteneciente a una familia noble, recibió una cuidada formación. Debido a su gran talento, fue conocida en varias cortes europeas y contratada como dama de compañía de la reina Isabel de Valois, esposa de Felipe II, a la que también dio clases de pintura. Con 30 años volvió a Italia y montó su propio taller de pintura. Tras su muerte, muchas de sus obras fueron atribuidas a pintores de la corte de Felipe II. 

From a noble family, she received an excellent education. Due to her great talent, she was known in several European courts and hired as a lady in waiting and painting teacher for Queen Isabel of Valois, wife of Felipe II. At the age of 30, she returned to Italy and set up her own painting workshop. After her death, many of her works were attributed to male painters from the court of Felipe II.
